JOB PROFILING WITH WORKKEYS

ACT Inc.’s WorkKeys® job profiling system is a job analysis system that helps businesses identify the skills and skill levels employees must have to perform particular jobs effectively. It also gives individuals a clear picture of the skill levels they need to qualify for and be successful in the jobs they want.

WorkKeys job profiling is conducted by job analysts who have been trained and authorized by WorkKeys industrial/organizational psychologists. The profiling procedure is designed to systematically develop accurate profiles through a task analysis that is used to select the tasks most critical to a job, a skill analysis that is used to identify the skills and skill levels required at the entry level and for effective performance on that job, and skill ranking, which determines which WorkKeys skills are the most critical to the job.

THE BOTTOM LINE: WorkKeys helps increase your bottom line and improve productivity by:

• Reducing employee turnover, overtime and waste by ensuring that employees have the basic skills necessary to be effective in the workplace.
• Establishing the legal defensibility of your employee selections process.
• Improving the results of your training practices by making certain that trainees have the basic skills to make the most of your investment in training.
• Documenting that your employees and businesses are competitive - helping to prevent the transfer of jobs to other cities, states or countries.

WORKKEYS & CAREER READY ALABAMA

Career Ready Alabama is an employee credentialing program, based on WorkKeys®, that measures job skills. It gives employers a way to identify employees with the most potential and jobseekers proof of their ability to succeed on the job. Career Ready Alabama helps take the guesswork out of the hiring process, saving employers time and money. The program is coordinated through the Alabama Governor’s Office of Workforce Development and incorporates the Alabama Career Readiness Certificate, Worldwide Interactive Network (WIN), and job profiling.

The Alabama Career Readiness Certificate is a nationally recognized certificate, signed by Governor Bob Riley. To earn the credential, a jobseeker must take three proctored assessments – applied math, reading for information and locating information. These assessments are different than most others; they test the skills required for more than 85 percent of all jobs today. The program also offers free online training by Worldwide Interactive Network to help jobseekers build their skills.

GRANT FUNDS AVAILABLE

Career Ready funds are being made available to help business and industry use WorkKeys Job Profiling.

A company may apply for a grant up to $2,000.00 to be used towards the cost of one (1) job profile. The grant will be paid to the WorkKeys Testing Center that performs the job profile. The company must match the grant with at least $500.00. Each company may apply for up to two (2) job profiles

To apply for the grant funds, the company will need to submit a letter on official letterhead to the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. The letter should state how the company plans to use WorkKeys and the Alabama Career Readiness Certificate, the position(s) the company would like to job profile, and the amount of funding requested.

Once approved, the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development will work with the company to locate a job profiler in their area. For more information, please visit www.careerreadyalabama.com or call 334-353-1105.
