The 111th annual celebration of The Chamber recognized volunteers and marked a tremendous year of accomplishment.
Lin Moore, chairman of the board for Pritchett-Moore and 2011 Chairman of The Chamber, presented the organization’s annual leadership honors and presided over the event. Terry Waters, recently retired Executive Director of the Chamber, assisted Moore with the presentations and reflected on the extraordinary efforts of the Chamber staff and volunteers during the changes and challenges of 2011.
Bryan Winter (pictured), partner at Lewis-Smyth-Winter PC, was honored as the recipient of the 2011 Charles H. Land Member of the Year, which is the Chamber’s highest honor to an individual member.
Winter was selected for giving so much of himself as a hands-on community volunteer in the aftermath of the storm, for his generous sponsorship of Chamber programs and events, his contributions to our governmental affairs functions, and for his leadership of the Economic Development division over the past year.
The Robert C. Tanner Corporate Service Award was presented to Bryant Bank. The award, which is the organization’s highest corporate honor, is given annually to recognize exceptional charitable, volunteer and philanthropic service by a corporate entity in the Tuscaloosa County/West Alabama region.
In addition, Chris Gunter of Buffalo Rock/Pepsi was honored as the Chamber’s Ambassador of the Year, for his exceptional service to and on behalf of the Chamber’s membership. The Ambassadors are the Chamber’s official hosts for all Chamber functions and responsible for member relations.
The Chamber also recognized outstanding community leadership with the presentation of nine Distinguished Service Awards. The 2011 awards were presented to Jerry Belk; Roy Clem of WVUA TV; Carolyn Dahl of The University of Alabama; Donny Jones of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama; Tim Lewis of T.A. Lewis and Associates; Dr. Barry Mason of The University of Alabama; Jordan Plaster of Merrill Lynch; Karen Thompson of Temporary Emergency Services; and Jennifer Wilson of Green Acres Landscaping.
The Chamber begins its 112th year of continuous operations in Tuscaloosa County, currently representing almost 1,100 businesses, industrial, professional and institutional members. The official transition to the 2012 leadership team was made at the annual celebration. Mark Sullivan, president of The Bank of Tuscaloosa, will serve as the 2012 Chairman of The Chamber. And Jim Page begins serving as its president and CEO.
