About
Us
The Adopt-A-School program is an effective, grassroots
partnership between education and the business and private sectors
of Tuscaloosa County. The successful business-education partnership
program proves that corporate America and our school systems can
work cooperatively to make a positive impact in our community.
Initiated in 1985, the purpose of the program
is to utilize the vast amounts of human resources and talents
of the business community to strengthen, enhance and enrich the
quality of education in our public schools in the Tuscaloosa City
and County systems.
Tuscaloosa’s Adopt-A-School Program has become an expected
part of our community’s educational fabric. We are fortunate
to have the active involvement of eighty businesses, industries
and organizations that work directly with specific schools as
adopters. This includes such groups as retailers, manufacturers,
civic organizations, utility companies, small businesses, financial
institutions, real estate companies and financial institutions.
The
Adopt-A-School is a joint partnership between the West Alabama
Chamber of Commerce and the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County
School Systems. In 1985 educators and business leaders had a vision
of area businesses and schools developing an effective working
relationship between the business and industrial community and
the local school systems. Four partnerships were initially created
and all four of those partnerships are still going strong today.
Since 1985 the program has grown to the current participation
of eighty adopters for the 48 public schools in the Tuscaloosa
City and Tuscaloosa County School Systems. While all public schools
in both the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County school systems
have at least one adopter several schools are in need of a co-adopter
to work with their existing partner.
