Connecting Business and Education

The Adopt-A-School program, initiated in 1985, is an effective grassroots partnership between education and the business and private sectors of Tuscaloosa County. The purpose of the program is to utilize the vast amounts of human resources and talents of the business community to strengthen, enhance and enrich the quality of education in our 57 public schools of the Tuscaloosa City and Tuscaloosa County School systems

Tuscaloosa’s Adopt-A-School Program has become an expected part of our community’s educational fabric connecting business and education. We are fortunate to have the active involvement of approximately 90 businesses, industries and organizations that work directly with specific schools as adopters. This includes such groups as retailers, manufacturers, civic organizations, utility companies, small businesses, financial institutions, real estate companies and financial institutions. These adopters initiate activities that encourage students, enrich their educational experiences and connect the world of work to the educational arena.

Who Supports Adopt-A-School

Sustainers

Through the Sustainer Program businesses and organizations are able to support the Adopt-A-School program without the commitment of actually adopting a school. These successful programs do not transpire without a great deal of support form the corporate community. Sustainers provide the financial support necessary for the coordination and administrative function of the program. See a list of current sustainers by following the link below.

Adopters

Adopters are the lifeblood of the Adopt-A-School program making a commitment of time, energy and expertise to an individual school. Companies and organizations of all sizes and experiences work with their schools to help sustain and enhance the education opportunities for the students of the Tuscaloosa area. A commitment from all partners at the highest level is essential. See a list of current adopters by following the link below.

The Adopt-A-School program fosters a better understanding of the public school system within the Tuscaloosa County area; strengthens and improves school programs; creates a climate of involvement and interaction between businesses and schools and involves the community in preparing for its own economic future.
